What Kind of Seat Covers for Work Trucks?

We’ve gone over this before, but it needs to be revisited.

What exactly is the best material for work truck seat covers? Everyone (figuratively speaking) makes their covers out of different material and claims that it’s the best, so let’s drop a few truth-bombs here and then let you decide.

If you’re familiar with TigerTough seat covers, you know they’re pretty much invincible. If you’re not familiar with them, check out this video.

Our work truck seat covers are manufactured from American made 1000 denier Cordura fabric. Cordura is a nylon blended fabric that we have treated with a custom urethane coating to make it water resistant.

What do other people use when they make seat covers?

Ballistic nylon is a 1680 denier nylon fabric. It is similar to our Ironweave, but the “threads” that make up the fabric are coarser. This makes it more difficult to install and more prone to fraying.

Cotton duck is a natural product and has a pretty fine weave, making it relatively smooth and soft. It’s a really popular material used in work clothes and in some brands of seat covers. Since it’s a finely woven natural material, it can tear easier than the Cordura that we use.

Neoprene is fairly popular as a seat cover fabric. A lot of people think it’s great because that’s what they make high-quality wet suits from. That sounds cool but if you’re not a diver, that doesn’t make a flying bit of difference!

Neoprene is water resistant but it holds the water on the surface of the fabric rather than allowing it to run off. That means if you spill something, your truck’s seat won’t get wet but your seat will.

So, what are the best seat covers for your work trucks?

If you’re going to spend the money to protect the seats in your vehicle, we advise you to spend it wisely.

Are you (or your technicians) getting in and out of the truck a lot? You need something with high abrasion resistance.

Do you wear a lot of tools on your belt? You need something that will be hard to cut or poke holes in.

Are you an accountant who drives their hatchback to work each day in your khakis? You don’t really need seat covers.

Buy seat covers that are going to last the life of your vehicle, not something cheap that will look bad and wear out quickly. That’s not smart.
