Hidden costs are like cancer in your fleet.
You don’t see them but they are there, eating away at your profitability, slowly eroding your efforts to be efficient. You don’t feel the pain until you look at the reports at the end of the month and see how much money has been tossed away to fix little things that you didn’t think about. Sometimes you never see what you’ve lost… it just never shows up and you get used to it not being there.
Any fleet manager without an unlimited budget knows that it is a constant battle to keep their fleet as effective as possible while being as cost effective as they can. You don’t need to keep devoting precious cash to the hidden-cost-cancer.
Ruined seats are a perfect example of hiddencostitis. (Not technically a doctor’s term, but it’ll work). You’re in the crazy day-to-day whirlwind, juggling the many tasks a fleet manager has to do and the last thing you want to do is worry about all your vehicles’ seats. So you don’t.
100,000 miles go past and it’s time to sell the vehicle. When you inspect the truck before it goes down the road, you open the door and your first thought is “What the —-? It looks like there was a raccoon fight in the driver’s seat!”
You’ve got two options –
- Have a tech take the seat out, ship it off to be re-covered, re-install the seat, then send the truck off to be sold, a couple weeks later than it should have been.
- Cut your losses and send the truck off with the seat that somebody is going to have to fix.
Either way, you’ve kissed goodbye to a handful of cash that you could have put to good use.
Thankfully, there is a better option.
High quality seat covers like the TigerTough Ironweave ones prevent you from having to make these sort of decisions. Put them on before the truck goes into service, take them off when it retires, and you’ve got a seat underneath that is is great condition.
No fixing, no cutting your losses, and extra cash in the bank. It’s a win-win-win!
